Kyrgios begins the thrills

On HiSense Arena Australia's big hope for the future was scheduled to play the first night match against Spain's 67th ranked Pablo Carreno Busta, from now on just known as Pablo.

Should be a breeze for the in form big serving Kyrgios but expectations on Day one had been blown apart for seeds such as Caroline Wozniacki, Sloane Stephens and Sara Errani.

Nick showed no sign of concern in the opening stages of the match, serving beautifully and playing with all the confidence that we know he possesses.  It only took the second serve of Pablo for Kyrgios to break through and he strode to a 3-1 lead, further consolidated with another impressive service hold.

The Australian's forehand was working well and Pablo appeared to have no answer to the power of Kyrgios who extended the lead to 5-2. Pablo had managed to limit the damage to a single break, but Nick loaded up in the eight game, returning with purpose and hitting his cross court shots with venom to break the Spaniard's serve with ease and take the first set 6-2 in just over twenty minutes.

A worry with Nick is his lack of discipline on occasion and he exhibited that in the first game of set two where he dropped serve.  Pablo took advantage and led 2-0 but a sign of maturity saw Kyrgios fight hard to grab the break back, for the moment leaving his flair and excitement aside in favour of solid percentage shot making.

Once back on equal footing, the natural ability began to shine again for Kyrgios and Pablo suffered. The Spanish game was not deficient in single aspect; rather it paled when compared with the potential of Kyrgios.

For the next stanza of set two Busta lifted and his service games were difficult for an impression to be made by Nick, at least until 5-5.  Both players struggled on return and finally it was the Kyrgios forehand which regained its potency in time to cause pain and suffering for the Spanish serve at 5-6.
Kyrgios now led two sets to love.

Straight out of the blocks, Nick raced to a 3-0 lead, serving too big and able to display shots not many others are capable of.  Busta stuck to his task and held for 4-2, but the writing was on the wall.

Nick blasted another lot of serves on the way to 5-2 and converted one of many match points created in what was to be the final game of this clash.

Kyrgios the victor impressively 6-2 7-5 6-2
